Be Still

Hey friends! It's been a while since I've posted anything on here. Hopefully I can get to work on some of my back logged ideas I have rolling around in my head. In the meantime I wanted to share something that has been on my heart about the COVID-19 reality and quarantine.

First off I want to make it clear that COVID-19 is a very real issue, it has a very high transmission rate and it can be deadly for some people. It also has a very high recovery rate and many people show few or no symptoms at all. These people are called carriers. That's why it's so important to stay inside. There's no rock solid way to tell if you are a carrier or not, some estimates are saying that as many of 85% of the people who actually have COVID-19 don't show any symptoms at all. Even if you feel healthy it's important to not be a corona crop duster for everyone around you.

Now, to the thing that's been on my heart. I understand that for some people this "stay home" order is difficult. For me, I learned that my normal lifestyle is quarantine so not much has really changed for me. I still have to go to work, which that has some exciting additions to deal with. I go home, I stay on my normal shopping schedule, I watch movies, play videogames and go for walks when the weather is nice.

For many others I keep hearing about how stir-crazy they are going being "stuck" inside. One friend told me he was going insane. I said, "I've known you for most of my adult life, you've NEVER been one to want to go out." He paused and said ".... yeahhh that's a good point" and we both laughed about it.

I get it, if you're used to going out all the time this can be a difficult shift. Something that I keep thinking about is it seems like it's a reflection of the busy lives we lead. The world has been passing us by faster than we can keep track of. I think people have forgotten what it's like to enjoy the world around them. They've spent so much time investing in their job or other people when they have to sit down and invest in themselves they don't know what to do.

This is a valuable opportunity for people to take a step back and evaluate their life. Ask yourself if you are taking care of yourself. Take time to read, write, draw, look for shapes in the clouds, think some deep thoughts. With technology being what it is call up a friend and see how they are doing, bring back some old connections with old friends and family.

Don't just sit in your chair and watch the news and track rising numbers. Yes the numbers are going to rise, that's what happens when a backlog of tests get processed and as more test become available more cases will be reported and those numbers will increase. Focus on the good you can do for yourself and the good you can do for others in the future.

Psalms 46:10 He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”

Take a deep breath, we'll get through this together (but 6 feet apart.)
