New Normal
Has something ever happened to you that really takes you down and you just don't feel like yourself anymore? This is something I've experienced personally and it really can mess with your mind and your body. I have a friend who has a good heart but doesn't really understand how depression and anxiety works come up to me and said "Jon, I don't like seeing you this way, I wish you would be normal again." Now if you understand how depression works you know that wishing someone would be normal again isn't the most helpful thing to tell them but like I said, he has a good heart and he really just cares about me. I replied "yeah, I wish I would be too."
It's something I kept thinking about and I realized that I will never again be normal again, at least not that normal again, which sounds a whole lot sadder than what it really is. I realized I had to create a new normal, I had to find the redefined person that I am now. I had to accept that the normal I had is gone and destroyed and I'll never be there again. It's not been an easy path but it's been worthwhile and the truth is change is hard.
Changing is a hard and painful process but it will happen with or without our effort. The sad part is most of the time if we don't put any effort into the change it will go into a negative direction and anxiety, depression, and anger will take hold of your life. You need to put effort into the change that is happening. There's this thing called the 21/90 rule for forming habits. If you do something consistently for 21 days in a row it'll become a habit and if you stick with that habit for 90 days it becomes a lifestyle change. Making a positive change takes time, effort and dedication but you are ultimately in control of your happiness and the direction of your "new normal."
