Butterfly
So lately I've been doing a lot of thinking about butterflies for a few reasons, some reasons are more meaningful than others. Butterflies have a certain meaning to me but I was curious as to what different cultures said about the meaning of butterflies.
Some use them at weddings to symbolize the married couple starting out a new life together. In the Christian faith a butterfly represents the resurrection of Christ. In some cultures the butterfly spirit animal in your life means that you will face a difficult change but it's important to follow it and it will give you the tools to overcome the obstacles. Some people say that a butterfly is the spirit of their recently deceased loved one coming to give them comfort.
All these different meanings for the same object. Now some of this information I got off a quick 30 second google search so I would imagine many more meanings exist each with a deep story associated with it.
As for me the meaning is kind of different. I have a couple things that it symbolizes to me. The meanings are a bit personal and special to me so I won't really be going in to details about it but basically it's a reminder for patience. For a butterfly to come to you you have to be at peace with yourself and be patient. That is a lesson I am trying really really hard to learn again.
I'm not sure if I'm just hypersensitive to noticing them or if someone (God) is trying to get a sign to me or a little bit of both but lately I've been seeing a lot of butterflies, not just real bugs but on signs, jewelry, quilts pretty much anywhere I go. Now I'm not including people I see with butterfly tattoos or butterfly decals on cars, I'm not oblivious to the fact that it's a very popular thing especially this time of the year with many butterflies hatching and migrating. What I am saying is those have always been very popular, it's just lately that they have been popping up in my life.
That main takeaway is we all have our own things in our lives that we need to remember. We need to open our eyes to what is going on around us and use them as reminders to look at ourselves. Are you stuck in a traffic jam and getting frustrated? Maybe that's something to remind you to be patient. Is a co-worker or customer being really annoying? Maybe that's a reminder to show kindness. Did you see a tiny bunny in the yard nibbling on a dandelion? Maybe that's a reminder to smile. If something is going on in your life step back and try and see why it's there.
